Vicodin is the most frequently prescribed pain reliever in the United States. It is used for short-term management of moderate to severe pain. Vicodin is composed of acetaminophen and the opioid drug hydrocodone. Hydrocodone can cause euphoria due to its effects on the brain, making the risk of Vicodin addiction high. Addiction to hydrocodone is a serious problem in the United States, with 2.3% of the population misusing the drug in 2017.

A person with a Vicodin addiction has many treatment options available to them that will help them stop using Vicodin and provide rehabilitation to allow them to function in everyday life without the use of the drug.

Vicodin Treatment Options

There are many treatment options for Vicodin use disorders that will vary based on an individual’s situation and needs. The first goal of treatment is to have the person detox from the drug, to get it completely out of their system. Following detox, the person can focus on what caused their addiction and how to avoid using Vicodin in the future.

Throughout the detox and rehabilitation process, medications may be used to ease withdrawal symptoms and control cravings following detox. This is sometimes referred to as medication-assisted treatment. An example of medication used in Vicodin withdrawal treatment, is the combination of buprenorphine and naloxone. These medications help by decreasing cravings and diminishing withdrawal symptoms that may occur even after the drug has fully left a person’s system.

Medication-assisted treatment is usually combined with therapy and cognitive support to provide a comprehensive treatment plan.

Medical Detox

Vicodin detox involves slowly weaning off Vicodin by using less and less of it over time. During medical detox, treatment  professionals may provide medications to ease withdrawal symptoms. Medical detox usually takes place in an inpatient setting so that the medical staff can provide care around-the-clock while a person goes through the detox process.

Inpatient Rehab

Inpatient treatment involves staying at a facility during the detox and recovery process. Vicodin rehab centers provide professional help throughout the Vicodin treatment process. Rehab involves therapy to address the underlying issues that led to the person developing a Vicodin use disorder.

Outpatient Rehab

Outpatient drug rehab involves regular visits to a therapist or counselor who will monitor the person’s progress and keep them on the road to recovery while allowing the person to go home and maintain their day-to-day lives. People choosing outpatient therapy may also receive medical help through the detox process but will not have the 24-hour surveillance and access to care that an inpatient detox program provides. People who are successful in outpatient programs generally have a strong support system at home.

Aftercare

During drug rehab aftercare, a person will resume daily routines with a new set of tools to help them control cravings and adjust to life without the use of the drug. Many times, individuals will still see a counselor or therapist regularly, so that they are held accountable on their journey and are provided support to continue to thrive. Some people will also participate in group therapy sessions or 12-step groups to help them stay focused on their recovery and learn from the experience of others.

How Long is Vicodin Addiction Treatment?

The duration of treatment for Vicodin addiction varies from person to person. The time treatment takes will depend on the duration of the detox process and what additional treatment methods are used to help the person cope with withdrawal symptoms. This will depend on how long the person has been using Vicodin and how much Vicodin they use.

Once a person has successfully stopped taking Vicodin, treatment will continue with maintenance therapy. This usually involves a comprehensive treatment plan with multiple strategies, including therapy and cognitive support. In general, the whole process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a year or more.

How Much Does Vicodin Rehab Cost?

The cost of Vicodin rehab varies greatly. How much drug rehab costs depends on what treatment options a person chooses to use, how long the treatment takes, which treatment center they go to and whether or not treatment is covered by their insurance. It is best to contact treatment centers to discuss their rates with them. They can also help you check to see if your insurance will cover the costs.

If rehab is included in your personal health insurance plan, some or all of your rehab costs may be covered. If rehab is not included in your insurance plan, there are government assistance programs for those who qualify or sliding fee programs that allow individuals to pay over time, depending on their financial situation. You can also choose to pay your own expenses out of pocket.

No matter how much the cost of rehab ends up being, it is worth it to ensure that a person will safely and effectively recover from their substance use disorder and maintain their sobriety.

Finding a Vicodin Treatment Center in Washington or Oregon

When a person is considering which treatment center is right for them, there are many factors to think about. The location, types of treatments offered, success rates, duration of treatment, staff to patient ratio and cost of treatment may all play a role in which treatment center a person chooses. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration provides a tool to search for opioid addiction treatment centers by state.
